CHIEF RABBI W. A. MATTHEW 1892-1973

First internationally recognized ordained Black Rabbi in the United States and the Western Hemisphere. Founder and organizer of the first Hebrew (Black) congregation in the Western Hemisphere. Rabbi W. A. Matthew founded and was dean of the first accredited Hebrew rabbinical college training Black Rabbis. He led his congregation in the strictest orthodox tradition. Rabbi W. A. Matthew was world renowned and lectured on Black Hebrews and related subjects nationwide and in Canada.

Received SEMICHA from Chief Rabbi W. A. Matthew on June 12, 1971, at the age of SIXTEEN! Rabbi Dore' was trained in the orthodox tradition by his grandfather. He was educated at the New York Yeshiva Day School, Yeshiva High School and the Yeshiva University.[[text apparently covered in whiteout]] Rabbi Dore' is presently a full time executive rabbi at his grandfather's Harlem Synagogue.[[/text apparently covered in whiteout]] He has lectured extensively at colleges, universities, important Jewish organizations and youth groups. Rabbi Dore' is curator of the "Rabbi W. A. Matthew Memorial Museum." This museum or memorial room houses the early and current history of the Ethiopian Hebrews in the Western Hemisphere under the leadership of the late Chief Rabbi W. A. Matthew.
