Foreword

In the following pages no attempt is made to give the history of the First African Baptist Church but, instead, an effort is made to give a picture of First African's activity, through its various groups, leading up to the dedication of the present building of the First African Baptist Church November, 1956. References to the founding of the church and to its early history are used mainly to afford the proper background for events of more recent years.

First African is fortunate enough in having some 50 active auxiliaries and departments and committees working along different lines but all tending to accomplish the same object in the Divine plan.

Let it be said, also that without the loyalty and devotion of the entire membership of the church, the task of relocation and dedication could never have been accomplished.

With grateful appreciation, we acknowledge the services of Mrs. Florence Robinson for compiling this brief history.
