Nothing today but the mail, and she made a good job of it by arriving three hours ahead of time with a batch for me and no business letters.

Ikey tried to draw me into a rubber over at the club tonight, but I was indisposed. I'm strictly off Bridge when he's around after this. However, Ikey climbs aboard the water-wagon for dear old München next mail day, and then we will be free. Ikey is certainly a shine bridgite.

Ikey entertained tonight. Schirmer had to dress up and beat it over, too,- that's what got me. Poor old Schirmer,- why can't Ikey let him be comfortable in his long chair, instead of dragging him off to bum dinners in a boiled shirt this hot weather. Gottergottergott! It's r-r-r-rotten! Es ist unheimlich!

Murray referred to Ikey as "an active member of Aden society" and put it on several layers deep, after which Ikey stood up on his hind legs and made a few choking sounds in response, retiring amidst thunderous applause when he announced another round. I'm afraid Ikey was being worked and didn't know it.
