The fatal guns boomed about ten or half past, and we got Bunny's turnout and drew down to meet our fate. He didn't discharge us on the spot, to be sure, bit that may be the ominous calm that precedes the storm. Instead he made inquiries about the next tub for Zanzibar way.

I was treated to a thorough catechising  all the way up to Camp. "It ought to be made a law," 'e sez, sez 'e, "that you fellows up in Camp go down to the Point everyday and find out something." I might have put in a modest bid for a gharri, but I refrained.

"How does it happen", fragt er, "that you and Schirmer ^[[both]] have business on board and that you came off in different boats?"

"Ahem, er- er,-" sez I.

"Little friction? Trouble?" sez 'e. It didn't take him long to find it out.

Bunny came over and made his ceremonial call today. He gave us a lengthy recital of his wrongs and chewed over that mill affair for an hour or more. Yes, Bunny is not in the business for anything less mercenary than the hard coin.
