I had the pleasure of firing the cook today. The blighter had the nerve to ask for a recommendation! He got it, right where Minnehaha wrote the bear's-claws.

One of the new cook's chits was funny. "Unfortunately," it read, "he only cooked one meal for us, as my husband died."

Gentle reader, there may be four of my friends buying white gloves tomorrow. It is best to be prepared, - But I am so young it seems a shame!

Sent word to New York the other day "Stocks on hand 4500 Prime, 3500 Gendi. Large quantities of ivory reported near the coast." Did you hear those limits drop? There's going to be some scramble to unload here pretty soon. Besides our stock theres 3000 Prime and 2000 Gendi in town, with 300 frasilas at least, on the way down from the interior. That's ten tons of the bloody stuff, and all large!
