Arnold walked in on me this morning at breakfast-time, having come on the French mail. He left New York on Mar. 2nd, and made somewhat of a quick passage. I'll bet Vining was equally surprised when he got my cable announcing his scheduled arrival at Zbar. the following a.m. Well, 'e sez, I'm due to be back in NY. Sept. 4th, and so I b'lieve I'll hike hence on the August Onion-Castle wallah, and take a little trip around the Cape.

If I get away then it will mean only about four months more of Africa,- and the good ol' USA. October first or so! What [[image - ?]] !!

There've been enough boats to Zanzibar lately. Three yesterday afternoon, and two today. The "President" came in with smallpox on board, and they told 'er to beat it. Butti hiked for a last look at Zanzibar before going home.

Vining writes me that Stewart is coming out for Childs & Co! Well, what do you think of that? It's a bad bargain for them both, but quite satisfactory to us.
