Quieter today. Didn't do much more than lay around and rest, and amuse Miss Marsden. She's quite a plucky little woman,- going over to the bamboo forest she fell off her mule four times, but it didn't phase her a bit.

In the evening Schauer got back from Nairobi. I don't blame him for being glad to get back. I shall be very sorry to leave Wednesday morning, as I've enjoyed the change immensely, but I suppose the best way I can show my appreciation is to turn up in Mombasa on time. Three weeks of that place will be quite enough.

The hunters started out this afternoon,- after preliminary practise in the morning,- to decimate the neighboring animal population generally, and I went along to immortalize their mighty deeds. We went up the hill, and through the forest onto the plateau, where we separated. Of course, I picked out the wrong detachment. We doubled back through the wood and through the forests on top of the hills in back of the house clean over to the top of that hill across from Kijabe Peak, but saw nothing. We scrambled down in disgust, only to meet the others coming in with a leg of Kongoni. Allus the way.
