talk. There's no use denying it, the American speech is a different one than the English. But it seemed good to hear them, and I couldn't help chuckling whenever they let out a succession of "r's," But the college clothes the young fellows wear are the bloody limit. 

8th.

Well, somehow or other, I got another crick in my back, same's I had in East Africa, and I was laid out flatter than a pancake this morning. Damfine thing on board ship, I don't think.

Better this morning, but still mighty sore and pretty weak, and had to keep to my bunk all day. Thank heaven it was calm, and I didn't have sea-sickness chucked on top of my other troubles. 

Re-read "The Lady of The Decoration," between times. It made me awfully homesick, for one thing. I shall be damned glad and thankful when I see Miss Edith F. Johnson agin, and I don't mind tellin' you. Well, Inshallah that will be end of this week.
