Dear Mr. Cassatt:

Following our conversation of today, we have sent for the painting by Manet "Portrait of an Italian Peasant Woman", which is your property, at Messrs. Knoedler & Co., Inc. to whom we turned over your letter of authorization.

It is understood that we are insuring this picture on our all-risk policy for the net price at which you consigned it to us; i.e., $20,000. (twenty thousand dollars).

It is further understood that you will leave this painting with us for purposes of sale until May 31st, 1943.

For the good order of our records, may we ask you to be good enough to sign and return to us the appended duplicate of this letter?

Thanking you,

Sincerely yours,

JACQUES SELIGMANN & CO., INC.
