December 20, 1949 Dear Arthur: I am in receipt of your two good letters of December 6th., and December 12th., and appreciate much your extending our agreement for another three months. Regarding South America, I have actually established the contact as I hoped to. Whether of course they can see purchases in terms of such quality, importance and thus price, the next two or three months should tell. Meanwhile, I have decided to officially propose the two paintings to the Kress Foundation at the beginning of January.....the Romans used to say "Jacta alea est" which in good American we would express "the die is cast". Thanks also for the clipping of the Tintoretto bought by Chicago. This was no news or surprise to me, as I believe they had this painting on their list for several years, and I could give you no better example of the patience needed to deal with these great institutions. Not that I do not understand their hesitancy and the problems they face from all possible angles, having for so many years been in personal touch with museum directors and curators, but if I am making this comment it is to make you realize that to go slowly at times is a virtue, as much as we would want to make haste. I am truly delighted to read of your new installations at 33 rue de l'Universite, and appreciate indeed your kind invitation to call on you and see all your beautiful paintings. With kindest regards, and best holiday wishes, Sincerely yours, (Germain Seligman) [[initials]] GS [[/initials]] Arthur Sachs, Esq. 33 rue de l'Universite Paris France
