E.S. Bayer, Esq.
32 East 79th street
New York

My dear Mr. Bayer,-

I went to your house this morning, and I assure you that it was a great pleasure for me to see that beautiful bas-relief looking so well in the place where it is hanging now.

You surely know that we have to pay to the Government a 5% Excise Tax on the sale of this bas-relief, and that this tax is to be paid in cast. Don't you think it fair that you should also pay me these 5% right away, and not consider them as part of the agreement which has been made between you and me for the settlement of your account?-

I wish to remind you that I am sailing next Saturday, and I certainly hope that I will have the pleasure to shake hands with you again before I leave.

With kindest regards, believe me,

Yours very sincerely,
