July 22, 1952

Dear Mrs. Gomes:

Though I have not heard from your in answer to my letter of July 14, I assume you duly received from Monsieur Lefebvre-Foinet the check to your order in payment for the "Jeune Seigneur".

Meanwhile, however, I received your very good lines of July 12, and let me say that both Mrs. Seligman and I enjoyed much your company. and that if business rushed us at times, this trip has [[strikethrough]]been[[/strikethrough]] altogether left [[us?]] both with most pleasant memories.

La Fresnaye: I should not write "I told you so" but you will admit that once more I was right, unfortunately too, and that when Mademoiselle de La Fresnaye said she did not want to sell it really did not mean anything, any more than the answer she gave you when you saw her.

Cognacq catalogue: Through some incredible oversight I have never heard nor seen anything in connection with the sale of the Bibliotheque Cognacq which was sold at Drouot on the 19th and 20th of May. In it was I just heard a "Plaque de Psautier" of the 11th or 12th century, representing "King David", with exceptional enamelled border.

I would be much obliged to you if you could send me a catalogue of this auction and also find out the price at which the "Plaque de Psautier" was sold and by whom bought. I am truly distressed not to have seen it nor to have heard anything about it at the time.

Small marble head, Avignon - Nogues: Please do keep this little head in mind. It is not a very valuable work of art, but I am very keen about it as it is so very charming, and hope that it will come to you through your friend Nogues and that we shall not hear that somebody else bought it, as here again the dealer's word Darton? means nothing.

Monet exhibition: May I remind you of our conversation on this topic and of getting in touch with D'Alayer. Also I told you of my interest in the large painting representing somebody clad in Japanese costume belonging to Duveen Brothers. Should you not be able to have a definite idea of value through some other means I am of the opinion that you write purely and simply to Duveen Brothers in New York, 18 East 79th St., telling them you have a client interested in the painting, and inquire what their price would be.

Lami, Eugene, - Madame Ancel: As I told you I am interested in this painting for my personal collection, and though you told me she did not want to sell it I would like you to keep after her and have her mention a price.

Barbizon School watercolors and drawings: I would like you to keep an eye
