Dear Walter:

I did not want you to think that I had forgotten about your very kind telephone call some weeks ago, but the rapid events in Europe were of such a nature that it was difficult for me to approach anyone regarding any matter even remotely connected with art. In addition, a condition of paralysis existed in our Paris office which prevented them from working along a normal line of activity and hence many shipments were delayed.

However, I am now in a position to tell you a little bit better about certain outstanding things which we are expecting here this week and next, amongst which I believe there may be quite a few things which should interest you.

We are, as I told you, going to have a very important Juan Gris Exhibition and in this connection we shall have many very fine canvases by this artist. Also, we shall be bringing over quite a few very marvelous canvases by Roger de la Fresnaye (an artist whom, as I remember, is not represented in your collection, and who I feel by all rights should be); certain new Picassos; two or three of the finest Vuillards ever seen, etc., etc. In addition to this, we shall have many outstanding items in the field of the French 19th century, and many new drawings which I think you would like to see.

This is all by way of advance information because actually at the moment, very few of the things are here on the premises, and I think it would be better if you could wait a little longer and see the things in a group when they are all here. If I may, therefore, I will give you a ring, and look forward very much to seeing you again and showing you these things.

With all good wishes, and with many thanks for your interest,

As always -
Yours sincerely,

(Robert M. Levy)
