Dear Mr. Speelman:

Answering your pleasant lines of June 4th. I am sorry to say I have to turn down your offer of $2,000.00 (two thousand dollars) for the Domenico Tiepolo drawing, "Visit to the Zoo".

However, I would accept a net firm offer of $2,400.00 (two thousand four hundred dollars). In view of the dearth of drawings of such merit and the difficulties I have encountered on this trip in finding anything of this caliber, I truly consider this last figure as an extremely reasonable one indeed. Should you see your way clear to accept my proposition, do advise me accordingly so that I can give the necessary instructions to my firm to have the drawing dispatched to you.
