MR. GUY EMERSON

The Board of Trustees of the Samuel H. Kress Foundation at a meeting held October 24, 1962, at 221 West 57th Street, New York, N.Y., unanimously adopted the following minute and resolution:

RESOLVED that the Trustees of the Samuel H. Kress Foundation individually and collectively, desire to record a deep sense of regret at the retirement on May 31, 1962, of Mr. Guy Emerson, Art Director of the Foundation.

Mr. Emerson joined the Foundation Board on December 20, 1946 and became a member of its staff in October 1947 to guide the nation-wide art project upon which the Foundation had embarked.

With rare insight and taste he planned and guided the Kress Regional Gallery program, the Kress Study Collection program and the systematic pruning and enriching of the Samuel H. Kress Collection in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. His tact, extraordinary human qualities, and singular devotion to all aspects of these programs enabled the Foundation to carry them to completion with distinction and dignity.

The Trustees wish to express their deep appreciation to Mr. Guy Emerson for his guidance of these programs, which have made such a notable contribution to art in America; an achievement which has added luster to the name of the Kress Foundation and which will be of immeasurable importance to the cultural development of the citizens of the United States.

The Board is exceedingly pleased that as Art Director Emeritus Mr. Emerson's wise counsel will still be available to the Foundation.

A copy of this resolution was ordered sent to Mr. Guy Emerson.
