Dear Mr. Emerson:

May I take the liberty of calling your attention to a point which I feel has its importance.

I am referring to the catalogue made available last Saturday in Washington and in it to the bibliography mentioned in connection with the Bust of Cagliostro by Houdon; from which the name of Paul Vitry has been omitted.

The late Paul Vitry was, as you [[strikethrough]] may [[/strikethrough]] recall chief curator of sculpture at the Louvre and was recognized by all as one of the greatest scholars in his field. His name would add definitely, weight to such a document.

Paul Vitry wrote the article in "Les Arts" No. 82 - 1908 part I referring to sculpture, whereas Lemoisne (mentioned in the National Gallery Catalogue) wrote part II on the pastels. You will notice that Vitry's name appeared at the end of Part I - page 12.

Paul Vitry, furthermore, was in charge of the description of the sculptures in the catalogue of the great 1932 French Art Exhibition in London.

I thought you might like to have this precision pointed out.-

With personal regards,

Sincerely yours,

Germain Seligman
