SMITHSONIAN INSITUTION PROCEEDINGS OF THE MEETING OF THE BOARD OF REGENTS January 28, 1980 [[underlined]] Attendance [[/underlined]] The meeting of the Board of Regents was held in the Regents Room of the Smithsonian Institution Building and was called to order by the Chancellor at 9:30 a.m. on January 28, 1980. Present were: Chief Justice Warren E. Burger, Chancellor Anne L. Armstrong John Paul Austin William A.M. Burden Caryl P. Haskins A. Leon Higginbotham James E. Webb Senator Henry M. Jackson Senator Robert B. Morgan Representative Silvio O. Conte Representative Norman Y. Mineta Representative Frank Thompson, Jr. S. Dillon Ripley, Secretary The following Regents were unable to attend because of prior commitments: Vice President Mondale, Senator Barry Goldwater, and Murray Gell-Mann. Also present were: Under Secretary Michael Collins; Under Secretary-designate Phillip S. Hughes; Assistant Secretaries John F. Jameson and Charles Blitzer; Treasurer Christian C. Hohenlohe, Executive Assistant to the Secretary James M. Hobbins; Consultant to the Secretary Dorothy Rosenberg; Consultant to the Board of Regents Hermann P. Bretsch; Assistant to Senator Morgan, Carroll W. Leggett; Assistant to Mr. Mineta, Paul Schoellhamer; and Assistant to Mr. Conte, Byron Walker. [[underlined]] Death of John Nicholas Brown [[/underlined]] The Chancellor called the Regents' attention to the following statement which had been handsomely prepared in fine calligraphy for presentation to Mrs. John Nicholas Brown.
