A significant feature of the work program was the establishment of a Technical Advisory Committee comprised of the Smithsonian Institution, Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, District of Columbia Department of Transportation, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, Commission of Fine Arts, National Gallery of Art, Office of the Architect of the Capitol, National Capital Planning Commission, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Commission, General Services Administration, National Park Service, Urban Mass Transportation Administration, and the Washington Convention and Visitors Association. The Committee held a series of meetings intended to enhance the potential for implementing further actions.

DeLeuw, Cather and Company submitted draft reports of the "Special Studies of Visitation, Transportation and Parking for the Museums on the Mall" in August and September 1979. Following review of these draft reports, relevant comments have been provided to the consultants for guidance in the preparation of the final report. The parking and visitation studies are nearing completion.

This detailed report will provide a wide range of evaluation criteria appropriate for assessing the feasibility of potential actions for reducing the Mall area access and parking problems. Following review of the final report specific recommendations for appropriate action will be developed which recognize the unique features of visitation to the Smithsonian Mall museums. The Regents will be kept informed.
