[[underlined]]Personnel Appointment[[/underlined]]

Dr. Richard S. Fiske has been named Director of the National Museum of Natural History/Museum of Man, succeeding Dr. Porter M. Kier who retired from the directorship in June 1979.

Dr. Fiske holds degrees from Princeton University and The Johns Hopkins University. He is a geologist specializing in volcanological studies and joined the staff of the Museum's Department of Mineral Sciences in September 1976 after serving for twelve years with the U.S. Geological Survey.

Dr. Fiske's scientific background and his administrative experience, together with his fresh outlook and knowledge of the Museum, provide a combination of qualities making him eminently suited to direct the Museum. He assumes direction of the Museum's seven departments, 107 scientists, and 500 other personnel, including administrative, exhibits and the education staffs.

Dr. Fiske is a resident of Bethesda, Maryland.
