The President
The White House
Washington, D.C.

Dear Mr. President:

The Regents of the Smithsonian Institution have recommended that Lieutenant General Andrew J. Goodpaster, U.S. Army, be appointed to the National Armed Forces Museum Advisory Board, Smithsonian Institution. This appointment would fill the seat left vacant by the death of the Honorable John Nicholas Brown.

The Regents have also recommended that Professor Theodore Ropp be reappointed to the same body. Professor Ropp's present appointment will expire on April 9, 1980.

These recommendations are made under the provisions of Section 1, paragraph (b) (3) (B) of Public Law 87-186, approved August 30, 1961 (U.S.C. 80-80d).

Your favorable consideration of them is most respectfully requested.

I should like also to call to your attention that on April 9, 1980, an additional seat on the National Armed Forces Museum Advisory Board will become vacant by expiration of the appointment of Mr. Fred L. Dixon.

Faithfully yours,

/s/

S. Dillon Ripley
Secretary
