Design is nearing completion for the dining/common building that also is to be constructed at the summit (an amount of $330,000 appropriated in FY 1980 is available for this project).

[[underlined]] Museum of African Art[[/underlined]]

An amount of $350,000 was appropriated in FY 1980 to bring the Museum of African Art buildings up to minimum standards for fire protection, safety and handicapped accessibility and for essential repairs An architectural engineering services contract has been awarded (approximately $28,000) to prepare detailed drawings and specifications necessary for a construction contract.  Some minor emergency roof repairs have been accomplished by Smithsonian maintenance staff.

[[underlined]] Chesapeake Bay Center [[/underlined]]

Bids have been received for the construction of a maintenance building at the Chesapeake Bay Center, and it is expected that a contract will be awarded for approximately $265,000.  The new building will provide an efficient space for vehicle and boat maintenance, metal and carpentry shops, and indoor storage.  An amount of $150,000 was appropriated in FY 1979 for this project, and several of the Center's smaller projects will be deferred in order to provide adequate funds for the maintenance building.  The Institution's Congressional appropriations committees have been advised of this reprogramming.

[[underlined]] National Zoological Park [[/underlined]]

A renovation contract for the Reptile House has been awarded for approximately $2,080,000.  The Aquatic Habitats concept and design contract negotiations have started with a firm that has prior zoo experience
