Total operating funds provided to the Institution (net of expenses related to auxiliary and bureau activities) totaled $139,092,000 compared to $139,979,000 as estimated at the September meeting. Lower than anticipated federal grant and contract support (primarily at the Astrophysical Observatory) was offset in part by increased gifts and other revenues to special purpose and restricted funds. After all program expenditures, the addition to the unrestricted general trust fund balance was $36,000 at FY 1980 year-end, or about as projected previously. A complete analysis of FY 1980 financial results is contained in the Financial Report which will be included in [[underlined]] Smithsonian Year 1980 [[/underlined]]; advance copies of this report are available to the Regents.
