[[underlined]] National Portrait Gallery Commission [[/underlined]]

The Secretary reported that at its January 13, 1981 meeting the Commission of the National Portrait Gallery unanimously resolved to recommend that the Board of Regents appoint the Honorable Barry Goldwater to the Commission. This appointment would enable the Commission to preserve the tradition of Regents serving in the chair of the Commission (positions held by the late John Nicholas Brown and Senator Robert Morgan). By statute, appointments to the National Portrait Gallery Commission are made by resolution of the Board of Regents. Further, as provided in the new Bylaws, the Commission recommends unanimously that Senator Goldwater and Mr. Andrew Oliver be appointed Chairman and Vice-Chairman, respectively, of the Commission. The following motion, suggested by the Commission, was approved:

VOTED that the Board of Regents appoints the Honorable Barry Goldwater to the Commission of the National Portrait Gallery for a six-year term and to serve as Chairman, and that the Board appoints Mr. Andrew Oliver to serve as Vice-Chairman.

Reflecting the foregoing Regents' actions, a list of the current Commissioners is attached.
