[[underlined]] OTHER MAJOR CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS [[/underlined]]

[[underlined]] Chesapeake Bay Center for Environmental Studies [[/underlined]]

Construction of a new water supply and distribution system is in progress at the Bay Center. Elements of the project include a new well, a pump-house, an underground water distribution network, a 100,000-gallon water storage tank and an access road. This new system will provide a fire-fighting capability and will support a fire protection sprinkler system which is planned for installation in FY 1982. The new system also will increase domestic water pressure to desired levels. The construction contract, awarded for approximately $259,000, is scheduled for completion by May 1981.

[[underlined]] Museum of African Art [[/underlined]]

Access ramps are being constructed to provide entrance for disabled persons to all Museum of African Art buildings. Other work in progress includes the installation of smoke detectors, fire doors, emergency lighting, exit signs, exterior security lighting, and the modification of doorways to meet local code requirements. Additionally, an elevator will be installed in the Frederick Douglass House later in FY 1981 to provide access to exhibits on all levels of this historic building.

[[underlined]] National Zoological Park [[/underlined]]

Modifications to the orangutan cages of the Great Ape House and installation of exhibit furnishings are to be completed in February, and the exhibit will open to the public in the spring. A design contract has
