mandc: Fig. 1 is the top view of Fig. 2; Fig. 2 is the side view of Fig. 1. It appears to me that this device is a gear wheel cutting jig for cutting various sizes of clockwork wheels. The wheel to be cut is A and the cutter is G. C on shaft H is the drive pulley that turns the cutter G. C is the ratchet set to the number of teeth to be cut on the wheel. The various knobs are depth adjustments for moving the cutting wheel G. Such devices are/were used by clockmakers and other instrument makers for cutting gears of various diameters and tooth count fur use in scientific devices.
