appropriations, with Federal grants and contracts to decrease slightly from the current year. [[underlined]] --Federal Appropriations: [[/underlined]] House and Senate mark-ups of the Institution's FY 1983 appropriation request are anticipated in September. It is almost certain that the Institution will be required to operate under a continuing resolution for a portion of the new fiscal year.

[[underlined]] --Nonappropriated Trust Funds: [[/underlined]] Net income from [[underlined]] Unrestricted General Trust Funds [[/underlined]] in FY 1983 is expected to increase by $720,000 to a total of $12,237,000, somewhat below the level previously anticipated in the [[underlined]] Five-Year Prospectus [[/underlined]] . Significant line item variances from the FY 1982 projection include:
[[bullet]] Concessions/Parking/Food Service - Further experience in self-operated food services and a full year's receipt of revenues from paid weekend parking should result in higher revenues ($299,000).
[[bullet]] Belmont - the sale of Belmont House and surrounding property will eliminate the annual operating deficit ($125,000 in FY 1982) in this activity.
[[bullet]] Division of Performing Arts - a deficit of $350,000 is projected in FY 1983 compared to a deficit of $1.1 million in FY 1982. Record production and sales are expected to break even with a shortfall occurring in the areas of concerts and general programs.
[[bullet]] SI Press, which in FY 1983 includes the combined revenues and expenses of the scholarly books division (formerly Smithsonian Exposition Books), is projected at a lower return ($312,000) than the current year ($710,000). New Publications to be promoted by direct mail will include [[underlined]] The National Museum of Natural History [[/underlined]] and [[underlined]] Vital Balance, [[/underlined]] together with repromotion of eight existing titles.
