THE SWORD SHALL BE DESTROYED BY THE SWORD.

Well, who won - Caesar or Jesus? Christianity or Roman Imperialism?

According to the record in 476 A. D. the Roman Empire collapsed and Christianity is many million times stronger today numerically than Roman has ever dared to be.

Historically, illustration after illustration could be given to substantiate the claim that neither racial distinction nor nationality is soley to blame for sectional, national, international bitterness, hate, revenge or strife.

Ninety-nine per cent of it is rooted in the desire to economically exploit and politically dominate.

The Spirit of Adventure
(Continued from Page 9)

Those same, so-called educated Negroes actually hat the idea of independent Negro schools.

This does not mean that Negroes are INCAPABLE of becoming SELF-RELIANT. The trouble is in their education, they have never been exposed to the atmosphere of "SELF-HELP" and INDEPENDENCE. They have never been taught nor required to dig into the deep resources of grave responsibilities.

Take for instance the Negro press, insurance companies, cosmetic factories, banks, etc., etc. They do BILLIONS of dollars worth of business ANNUALLY. How do they do it? They have learned the hard way. They have learned by trial and error, success and failure. They continued to experiment with "SELF-HELP" and INDEPENDENCE until their business genius struck oil. Does not this prove the Negroes' potential qualities of self-reliance?

The Negro business men, generally speaking, as well as the business men of other races, are what we call "self-made men." They were not school made - such men as R. H. Boyd, C. C. Spaulding, Mrs. Maggie L. Walker, Rockefeller, Henry Ford, etc.m etc.

In the learned professions, such as educators, doctors, lawyers, etc., etc., where are the institutions of higher learning established and maintained by them? Can you find one? It would be like looking for a needle in a hay stack.

Does that mean that the Negro is incapable of doing the job? No! He has been TRAINED away from that TYPE of RESPONSIBILITY. Train them in it and new standards in education will appear.

The trouble is not with the Negro, it is in his training and lack of opportunity for experience in manning institutions of higher learning.

Generally, in most fields, the Negro has been trained away from a systematic understanding of his people's problems - such as injournalism, as publishers, in printing, banking, insurance, education and religion.

The educational set up, emphasis and content in education, deletes or ignores the Negro's cultural background and contribution to civilization.

When a Negro enters one of the outstanding colleges and universities of the country, he comes out of an economic environment in which he had no opportunity to acquire an interest and experience in business that would qualify him, from a point of interest or responsibility, to effectively use the knowledge such institutions offer.

Thus, when a Negro completes the requirements of the outstanding colleges and universities of the country, he has been trained in an economic atmosphere that he will not be allowed to acquire the experience necessary for him to become a leader in business.

This is no criticism nor complaint. It is a mere statement of facts. The truth of the whole matter is, the above statement does not present A DILEMMA. IT IS A CHALLENGE!

The Negro has an opportunity to cure himself of an inferiority complex. How can he do it? The answer is simple, EMPLOY "SELF-HELP!" Let the leaders in NEGRO EDUCATION expose the Negro to the power of INDEPENDENCE-- that will cure him.

When a man becomes INTERESTED in developing his potentials, he surprises himself, and startles others. It is here suggested that the Negro:

"Cuss" less and create more!
Contract less in excuses and
Expand in usefulness more!
See less of others wrong and
More of his opportunity to be what others ought to be!
Become less interested in what is against him
And more interested in his creativity!

Our world and ages' greatest possession is not "ITS HAVES," but "ITS HAVE NOTS"--it is not its wealth, but its poverty. There are more hungry or starving people in the word today than ever before in history. OUR GREATEST POSSESSIONS ARE OUR NEEDS!

Our homes have produced a generation of delinquents--prison houses, insane asylums and hospitals have all but bankrupt the nation.

The leaders in education are at the crossroads without a sign board to indicate the direction of security. Religious leaders are looking to political demagogues and the leaders of materialism for direction. They are baffled with the god of race prejudice. The international threat of extermination or the destruction of this civilization baffles the mind of the leaders of government.

This is the Negro's chance to score; with "SELF-HELP" and SPIRITUAL INDEPENDENCE he could furnish LEADERSHIP to meet HUMAN NEEDS and make a better world.

What is our hope? Here is the answer USE THE SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE AND "SELF-HELP."
BELIEVETH THOU THESE THINGS?
IDEAS ARE POWERFUL THINGS!
