slanted inward one end resting in the trench, the earth packed firmly around it- one end resting on the stringer. As each slab was placed in position, side by side, where the two ends rested against each other at the upper part a [[underlined]] crotch [[/underlined]] was naturally formed in each of which a roof pole rested.

As the 8 inner posts were so high the stringers - for these were put in position by means of two forked posts on which the stringer rested and was placed in position. A ladder was made by chipping out foot rests on a post. this ladder is placed against one of the big posts and a man climbs up in order to sit on the end of the stringer as it is put in position. He straddles along the stringer & helps put each stringer in place as it arrives sitting on the [[underlined]] end [[/underlined]] till the next is placed in position etc.
