Dear Miss Fletcher,

I ought to have written long since, to thank you for your kind gift of "Indian Story & Song", which I have read with great interest, and value much.

Now I have a confession & an apology to make, in regard to your letter on Nov 22 to W. Crooke, about the review of Prof Fillmore's [[strikethrough]] book [[/strikethrough]] paper on Indian music, which appeared in our [[underlined]] Journal [[/underlined]] here. W. Crooke ceased to be Secretary in January 1900, & as I succeeded him, your letter & enclosure came into my hands: and as I was responsible for the appearance of the review of which you complained,
