in going through my papers lately, I found the envelope & covering letter among them, but no trace of your MSS & the reviewer's reply. I have had a thorough search for the missing papers, but cannot find them; and can only suppose that, as we were moving about in the vacation, and I was much overworked, my incorrigible habit of doing work in railway carriages has led me into trouble at last. I am more sorry than I can say, that this has happened through my carelessness; and that so much time has elapsed before I discovered the loss of the
