Yes the story ^[[of the delegation]] went ahead of the visit. (published in Pittsburgh causing an interest that materialized in sending Parker & Whitman, ^[[(35)]] the Whitman the Spauldings & ^[[the]] Lees.-

I want you to look up Lewis & Clark May 10"1806. description of their camp in Kamich (Cammeach Creek is their name). The great chief Tunnachemootodt (miserable spelling) that was black or speaking Eagle. No doubt in my mind after talking to some of the Kamichus - then this chief knew [erasure]] Lewis & C. when here. for they camped at K. until the snow went off the mountains. more than a month there. That makes the going to St L. plainer.

I am going to write a bit of history. not for publication unless it might be for the Presbytery. History of the mission- There will be a few strings in common with yours at first, but we will soon diverge. Mazie would look it over and rewrite the facts. she will look up your pictures, I thought I would not wait for her.

Not been away a day this summer and am not feeling vry fresh for the winter's work. Glad Miss F. and Miss G. are as well as they are. God bless you both
Ever yours
