There was but one sentiment among all & that was no leaseing.  The best men led in this sentiment.

After the  Council Jas. Grant, Jas. Moses, Leo Moses, Ed. [[?Retrin]] and a few other Agency Indians said - we can sign a paper for the Agent granting leaseing & the tribe will be powerless.  This caused great fear.  I was beseiged day & night.  I counciled patience.  The people wanted to put their farms in the hands of the Ind. Rights Ass.  I said Sen. M. will [[?so]] give you no money and you had better trust him.  Meanwhile the Agent has determined Jas. R. should not go to W.
