Mr R. is so very untruthful that he is capable of saying anything, or betraying the Dept. or this people.

During the half-[[?breed]] trouble last year, which he greatly fomented, Jas. [[?Reuten]] a full blood Ind. took the part [[?-V.P.]] half breed & argued to go to W. to plead for them on this res.  The Agent was very angry.  You may recall the letter he sent the office warning [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] against Jas. Reuten.  James R. was to start in a few days.  He was at the Agency.  Jas. [[?Slickper]] then Capt. of the Police was called by the Agt. & taken in a room for a private talk.  When he emerged from the room he want direct to Jas. Reuten & asked him to go to [[?Lewiston]] saying he (Jas. [[?Slickper]]) had money & they would have a good time.  Jas. R. reminded Jas. S. he was Capt of Police & the worry it would be for him to drink.  Jas. S. said he'd be all right.  They went off, got whisky & rode on toward Asotin - neither were drunk.  When they were by themselves Jas. S. drew a knife on Jas. R. who disarmed
