all contested cases of what ever character the [[strikethrough]] ir [[/strikethrough]] trial was always appointed for a given time, when each party was required to be present with witnesses to establish his statement, and he was also to choose & bring his own interpreter. All the evidence was taken down in writing at the time, and after due consideration a written copy of the decision was furnished to each contestant. In this manner all disputes & quarrels on the Reservation which came within the scope of my work have been settled. Many of these contentions were of long standing, some had engendered bitterness for over ten years, and been the cause of considerable trouble to the officials and the people.
