Hon. Commissioner of Indian Affairs:
  Sir:
I would respectfully ask to be instructed upon the following point.
After a peice of land has been selected, marked, and allotted, and the Indian for whom this land was taken, dies, shall I cancel the allotment, or shall I [[good guess?]] persist this allotment to appear in my report and a patent to be issued. 9

A case has occurred: William Johnson made a selection for his [[?]] & filing [[?]] about the Canoe. He came to me in the field, shared the hact, and I had assigned the land; within a week the woman died, and William Johnson asks if the patent can [[?]] be issued and he receive his rights as heir.

   Respectfully
      Alice C Fletcher
