One thing is very clear. Any attempt to remove the Indians from their homes in the Lapwai Valley would be attended with difficulties of a serious nature and leave a heritage of trouble; and, on the other hand, to settle the Nez Perce upon land, the title to which is in dispute would be equally disastrous to the future welfare of the community.
