the other Indians to whom you refer in the same letter as making statements similar to that you quote as having been made to you by Kep Kep pelican concerning me.

Making all allowance for the difficulties that may arise where two languages are in use, your letter shows a lack of perception of the fact that you were addressing an officer of the Government, and you do not do me even the courtesy of asking me, whether Kep Kep pelican may not have misunderstood me. Supposing I had been so remiss in official duty and courtesy as to gossip and questions about you among the Indians. Let me beg of you to remember that the work in hand demands all our attention and cooperation, and that you will not here after so forget yourself in statement and manner as you have done in your letter of Aug. 14.

Respectfully
