the chapters as a serial in some magazine I asked him what chapters he would suggest. & also how we should manage to use them again in book form. It might be well to try that, but of course we could do that only in the event of Mr Small refusing to publish the book.
As to the introduction, of which he speaks - that would be for the purpose of introducing you - not the book. Of course I will do it, but I have been casting about for some one who stands well in the world of letters to do it. And I can only think of Mr Carman himself. Just now the name of Charles Dudley Warner comes to me. I think I could venture to ask him. He stands high & his words would help. If I do that I must try & see him on my way home. I will think over all this. I stand for science. rather than letters, so I want a man of letters to introduce you, as letters will, I trust be your avocation for the future. Your science will be mainly your genuine help of me, and all I can do for you to win you a name there.
