My dear Francis
I can write you only a few lines this morning as I am not feeling well. Yesterday your gift to Alice came home and it was given to her to her great delight  When I was in New York I look for articles of silver which were the things Alice particularly wanted. I could not find anything satisfactory as the figures, so I determined to wait until I came home. I looked about here & finally went to Harris & Shafers. There I bought a very pretty mayonaise dish & ladle. This is, as I have found, one of the most useful of articles. It serves for whipped cream, for mayonaise, for salted almonds and for bonbons. It was very pretty, simple dish and good in lines. I had it marked
