never had training. We gave him the music divested of all external noises, & when he was confronted with the untranslated songs he was bewildered & naturally threw the blame where it did not belong. I am gland the work is done. I fancy some of the ritual songs are uninteresting, particularly as solos.

Tell me, — when these songs are sung, are they sung by one man only? Do the people ever join? do all the men who take part in performing the ceremony sing together? Do women ever sing these songs with the men? Dont forget to tell me about the songs in regard to these questions.

I do not yet know the plan of your work. I suppose you had S. C. Sing the songs in their order in the graphophone, & did not stop to question him while he was giving them, and now that you have the music transcribed you are going to take them up one by one, get the translation of each song, get at its meaning and put it in its proper place in the ceremony marking the place [[strikethrough]] it [[/strikethrough]], by a number, or in some way so that you will know just where to insert the [[strikethrough]] numbered [[/strikethrough]] song with the same number to it
