not speak to Mr. H. but now, I think, I will do a little, as carefully & as modestly as I can, leaving the bulk of the talk to be done with you & him. What I shall take tomorrow must be very little, perhaps only your list of the 7 ceremonies, to show your grasp of the subject. Mr. H. has not been well so I know that my interview must be very short.

Mr. Culin is downstairs saying goodbye. I think you will see him before long. If an eagle or so would help you, speak to him. He says he gets them cheap in California. He is going there, & he could mail some or one to you. I note in your letter, you speak of turning gifts made to you over to the Nat. Museum. You should get credit for this. You gave a dinner to S.C. & to look out when you rec'd the shining stick & ball, that cost you something. Really you must keep a tally on these things. You gave one pack that was your own free I want you to make use of these things to forward your work.

I shall speak

[[margin]] to Mr. Hodge about the Kaw. I want you to take up the Otoe too. Goodbye. Affly [[signature]] M. [[/signature]][[/margin]]
