But the greatest thing accomplished in this great political struggle is the overcoming of a dangerous war, dangerous in every way. The people of the country have four more months in which to think over and study the significance of the questions that have been raised by both parties and from all that has passed it looks as though the thoughtful and more [[underlined]] intelligent [[/underlined]] will prevail in the struggle that is still pending. The whole thing has brought out, glaringly, all the insincerity and inconsistencies of T.R. His lieutenants put forth all their strength for him but when it came to the question of bolting they yielded to their better judgement and stood firm against. Credit is due them for their appreciation of the fact that the fight was lost and that it would be more than useless to carry it further.

This settles the question of my vacation.
