Dept. is right and I hope it will hold out. The election was managed by the people interested in the oil leases and they secured the election of men they knew to be the most pliable, as against the mass of the full-bloods. While the whole thing is wicked in all its phases it is interesting in the way it reveals the weaknesses of of both the white and Indian race. The latter, to some extent, may be excusable but the white man who has been through the school of ethics and morals has no excuse whatever and all his acts are damnable.

I meant to have written you about my work but here I am near the end of the sheet without having said a word about it. I am at present working on the translation (literal) of the wi-gi-es and [[insert]] on [[/insert]] the name system, using the annuity payrolls to secure the names. I am using the agency interpreter to get at the correct pronunciation of the names and I am writing them in my own way — when this is done I shall get at the real meaning of the names, the gens to which they belong, and also I shall get at the marriages between the various gens as we did in the Omaha work. It is quite interesting.

Now I must close.

As ever Affly, [[signature]] F. [[/signature]]
