The Supt. is most obliging to me and is of much assistance to me as he complys with nearly all my requests on behalf of the Indians. This the Indians know and so they very frequently come to me to assist them in their business matters. This helps in my work. The situation of the fight is like this: Since the uncovering of Comstock by the Secret Service man C. is very active in trying to set himself right with the Gov't. The men really back of the whole scheme do not know just what C. has given to the Secret Service man, and they do not dare to make any definite move, and they also do not know what may be sprung upon them. Now that the fight for the four leases that have been the cause of so much strife [[strikethrough]] are dead [[/strikethrough]] is over & the leases are dead, both mixed and fullbloods are getting up big petition to the Council asking them to reconsider bids that they had turned down, (bids called for by the Govt.) Council is called for next Monday when petitions will be presented to them. If they refuse to act the Dept. may remove the whole council and appoint new men. So I may not be able to make definite plans for my return till after the council. In the mean time I shall try to get Wa-xri-zhi on his feet so that I can go ahead with
