My dear M-

On Thursday I came down here to Pawhuska and am at Wallace Springers where I am quite comfortable. Yesterday I spent all day in the camp. I had a long talk with Wa-xthi-zhi in which some things were explained that were not quite clear. I the talk he brought out the reference of the Tri-ta-pe ceremony to the approach of the Osage & the villages of the enemy. He opened the subject himself and seemed to enjoy talking about those ancient stories. This refers to war. The Tri-ta-pe wi-gi-e that speaks of the approach to animals refers to hunting. While I knew in a way that this was true it was not so clearly brought out.

After I had had my talk with W. I went to the house of old Pe'-tre-mon-i. His rooms were as clean as a new fire. He had great rocking chairs with soft leather cushions. His manner was that of a perfect gentleman, and his yes in response to my
