Just before he spoke I gave a short address and he referred to some of my remarks and enlarged on them. I spoke in English and so he understood. The Red Cross people had a banner that had stars on it representing the Omaha soldiers and it was desired that I explain to the white audience who the golden star at the top represented. It was a difficult task but I did it without breaking down, the star represented Fletcher Farley. Shortly after that and Osage called me and he put in my hands a ten dollar bill, saying, "I give you this to present to some one of your friends." I then lifted the bill up and motioned for silence. Then I told the audience that the Osage Indian who had given me the money to give away was a close friend of mine, and that I felt highly honored by his act. I said my friend gave me the money to give away and I now give it to the Red Cross." The  Committee came to me, four in number, with expressions of gratitude to receive the money as the audience applauded. My Osage friend them came up to me and placed in my hands ten dollars and
