My dear M,

     I am in Walthill for a few minutes and as I wait for certain stores to open I write you so that I might take advantage of the chance to mail.  I am still at Carey's and came from there a half hour ago to give to Mr. Dudley of the Times the story of the Pow-wow and of the donations to the Red Cross.  The total amount will be $1700.00 which speaks well for a small and poor community. He was much interested and says he will give a good "write-up."
     Caryl was at the Red Cross sale with his wife and two sons.  He gave me the two letters you sent and the one from him that you returned. There was quite a lot of fun at the auction sale. Silas Ward acted as auctioneer. Some of the things were donated over and over again.
     [[Phoebe?]] asked me to make certain purchases for her but at this moment the stores are closed for noon and I have to wait for them to open.
     I expect to go back to Lucys tomorrow, and on
