Madame,

The Citizens of Boston have generously donated a sum of money to be expended in such necessaries for the sick and infirm and feeble children who are in a destitute condition and where the provisions provided by the Government are not sufficiently nourishing. Knowing your feelings in reference to every movement calculated to benefit suffering humanity I have with the sanction of the Asst Commissioner taken the liberty of enquiring whether a portion of the donation say $100 could be used advantageously in your neighborhood

The plan adopted is to place the matter in the hands of a Committee of ladies who will cause to be purchased such articles as flour, sugar, coffee, tea, material for female clothing &c to meet cases of the character named without distinction of color, [[sound?]] position or political opiniion

All that will be required of the Committe will be to furnish invoices of articles purchased and sign such receipts as will be necessary to make a proper return of expenditures to the donors.

I am Madame
With high respect
