My dear Mr. Simmons:

I was much pleased to receive your letter in regard to a machine for the Gordon-Bennett. I think your motor would give the power you estimate and would be all that would be needed. I note that you propose using ball-bearings on the connecting rod end. Are you able to do this on a one piece crank? In most cases where this has been attempted the crank was built up of a number of pieces and I think did not prove very successful. I was talking to the representative of a ball-bearing concern a few weeks ago on this point but he did not recommend the use of ball-bearings on the connecting rod end on account of the weight. I would be glad to see how you have solved this problem.

Our idea of making the oil well separate from the base is to save weight. We make the well out of tin which is much lighter than we can cast.

I am so busy now in getting out our new models that I have not yet had the time to give any consideration
