I.  Before a General Court Martial, which convened at Charleston, S. C., pursuant to Special Orders No. 22, current, series from these Headquarters, and of which Bvt. Lieut. Col. G. A. Williams, Major 6th Infantry, was President, were arraigned and tried:

1st  Hospital Steward George R. Stiltz, U. S. A.
CHARGE – "Conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline."
Specification 1st – "In this, that George R. Stiltz, Hospital Steward, U. S. A. on duty in the office of the Medical Director, Department of the South, at Charleston, S. C., did between the hours of 10 and 12 o'clock on the night of the 18th of March, 1867, being drunk, go to the Post Hospital on Tradd Street in Charleston, S. C., and attempt to forcibly enter the private room of the Hospital Matron, Mrs. S. Merz, and otherwise behave in a disorderly manner."
Specification 2d – "In this, that he, Hospital Steward, George R. Stiltz, U. S. Army, did, on the night of the 18th of March, 1867, between the hours of 10 and 12 o'clock being drunk and disorderly at the Post Hospital on Tradd Street, Charleston, S. C., without provocation or sufficient cause, strike Hospital Steward C. B. Stockton, U. S. Army, and otherwise behave in a disorderly manner."
Specification 3d – "In this, that he, Hospital Steward, George R. Stiltz, U. S. Army, did, on the night of the 18th of March, 1867, between the hours of 10 and 12 o'clock, go to the Post Hospital on Tradd Street, in Charleston S. C., and then and there behave in a drunken and disorderly manner till arrested and carried off by two city Policemen."
Plea – "Guilty."
FINDING – "Guilty."
SENTENCE.
"To forfeit fifteen ($15) dollars of his pay per month for three months."
